Note 1
UNICEF Office – Damascus
Child-to-Child activities began in 1995 and the exact number of children involved in the programme is unknown, but at least 200 have been involved in the past. The Ministry of Education introduced this programme in 1996 in selected schools. The programme aims are:
1. Promoting students' skills in order to improve their living standards;
2. Creating awareness through the school health programme in order to strengthen the positive thinking and health behaviour of local community members;
3. Involving children in health, environment and development issues in society.
Activities are introduced through classroom teaching and through summer camps. Children are encouraged to think for themselves through activities such as field visits, group work to prepare and implement projects, and through discussion and evaluation of project outputs.
