Organisation of Child-to-Child Activities
“We began our Child-to-Child activities in 1990. Funding is provided by, and
activities are run through, the Hamdard Foundation Pakistan. Activities
are also run through the Hamdard Public School and Hamdard Village School.
Child-to-Child Activities
The main purpose of our activities is to educate children about health
and hygiene. Our Child-to-Child activity is partly school based. We concentrate on providing reading materials on healthy living. Health topics are included in the social science lessons. The children involved in our programme are based in rural and urban areas. The number of children currently involved is difficult to estimate, but they do include primary school-age children and children with disadvantaged and marginalised backgrounds. Child-to-Child activities are introduced through Child-to-Child storybooks and through classroom teaching. Children are encouraged to think for themselves and make decisions pertinent to their health. We aim at encouraging the children to understand the need to keep themselves healthy and to take health messages to their homes.
Use and adaptation of Child-to-Child materials
The children's literature division of the Hamdard Foundation Pakistan has launched a major publication programme to adapt and translate Child-to-Child readers into Urdu. Seven readers have so far undergone adaptation and translation and these are available throughout the country. More readers are in the process of adaptation and translation.”
