Note

Use of the Child-to-Child approach through the health promoting school programme

From 1994 the Department of Education curriculum division has used Child-to-Child approaches to health education in their primary schools using the first five of the six- step methodology. In the year 2000 they wroteThe Child-to-Child process is initiated through the health-promoting schools programme. The health-promoting schools programme is itself based on the education curriculum. By the end of 2000 all 20 provinces in our country were integrated into the programme. Each province will expand at its own rate, but eventually, every school in the country will be involved in this initiative. The idea is that pilot schools are developed in each province and then other schools follow suit. Health is taught in the schools under specific subjects, e.g. community living, personal hygiene, health and environment, personal development, science, home economics, social science, etc.’

Date: 2000. Updated information is awaited.
