Note 1
Mine and UXO programmes in Kurdish areas
The UN agencies MAG (Mine Awareness Group) and MAP (Mine Awareness Programme) have been promoting the use of a Child-to-Child methodology since the late 1990s and activities have now spread to other areas of Iraq with UNICEF involved. Some of the materials have been adapted from Child-to-Child prototypes.

Note 2
Child-to-Child Groups in the Basra Governorate
Repatriating refugee children
A recent Save the Children report (2005) reads
“SC is addressing the reintegration needs for repatriating refugee school children. Since the summer of 2003, tens of thousands of Iraqi refugees from Iran have returned to Basra governorate, and many of these returnees are faced with difficulties in finding shelter and jobs, as well as communicating in Arabic rather than Farsi. SC is assisting 30 rural primary schools with high numbers of returnee students. Assistance includes provision of Arabic language learning materials, psychosocial training of teachers, and training of teachers in mine awareness.
SC is using the Child-to-Child method to work with 50 groups of children and youth in schools around Basra governorate. The groups work together, with facilitation from SC staff, to identify and address child protection issues in their school or community.”
