Relevant background information

The University of Cuenca has, from 1985, emerged as an important resource group for Child-to-Child in Latin America. However, a number of other programmes are using and have used the Approach, including Plan International and HealthWrights.

The Child-to-Child programme, University of Cuenca

The Fundación Niño a Niño was formed in 1989 by a group of professionals led by a professor of paediatrics at the university and has been a centre for study and action since that time. It translates and adapts materials, organises workshops for training and discussion and undertakes action research projects among the most important of which are those dealing with alchoholism, smoking and children’s rights as well as those designed to promote ‘playing to live’ (Jugando a Vivir) to promote health and develop life skills through the development of low cost games.
