Relevant background information

A number of small programmes were active in the 1990s. The Child-to-Child Trust has their addresses but not their websites. Many small projects are associated with:

AIS has translated some Child-to-Child material into Spanish

FODEI

A project that began as a pilot in 1998 and now involves 35 schools and nearly 4,000 children, mostly from the Aymara culture, in La Paz and El Alto. There is funding from overseas NGOs but the Ministry of Education is also involved.

The project is schools based and is focused on older children learning about early childhood development and participating in the pre-school education of their younger siblings. Encouragement is given to children to analyse and solve problems though this seems to be an area of difficulty. A system is in place to evaluate the activities and since the programme has been in place many positive changes have been noted. Read more
